Welcome to 2011!

The Tenth Anniversay
of the 9/11 Attacks
September, 2011 |
It is hard to believe that 10 years have elapsed
since that fateful day in September of 2001 on which
nearly 3,000 Americans were murdered by Muslim terrorists
and our nation was dramatically transformed.
Sadly, when stories are related of the victims of
the 9/11 attacks the fact that nearly 10%, or perhaps
more, of the victims were veterans, is rarely ever
mentioned. Fiduciary Trust International, in which
I had been employed for nearly 25 years, was located
above the 90th floor of Two World Trade Center.
Ninety-five of my friends and co-workers perished,
nine of whom had served in our nation's armed forces.
Ironically, most of these veterans were Vietnam
veterans or younger. These veterans had already
done
their duty and upon entering our nation's armed
forces, had sworn "to protect and defend the
United
States of America from all enemies foreign and domestic."
Unfortunately, thanks to the neglect by the previous
administration (1992-2000)of the threat posed to
America by Muslim terrorists, our national leaders
not only failed to protect it's civilians, but also
to protect it's veterans who had already protected
our nation.
Today we are facing a similar dilemma based on ignorance,
neglect, disregard and dismissiveness. Those who
fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed
to repeat it. Unfortunately, thanks to poor leadership,
that means us.
This administration feels that the terrorists (sometimes
referred to as "freedom fighters") should
be given the benefit of due process and to consider
that the 9/11 attacks were attacks on the"citizens
of the world." The mayor of New York, the city
which suffered most from the 9/11 attacks, favors
the establishment of an Islamic Education Center
- a mosque by any other name is still a mosque -
at ground zero. The mayor also indicated that no
one would find it objectionable if a church or a
synogogue were established at ground zero. (keeping
in mind that St. Nicholas Orthodox Catholic Church
which was destroyed by the collapse of tower two
has not been permitted to be rebuilt.) Well, guess
what, Mr. Mayor? In case you didn't know, Christians
and Jews did not destroy the World Trade Center
in your - my city. It was Muslim terrorists.
And, Mr. President, unlike you, I do not consider
myself a "citizen of the world," nor did
anyone of those who were murdered on 9/11. Considering
these victims as such demeans their memory and,
especially, the sacrifice of those veterans who
perished. As president, you expect citizens of the
United States of America to respect your office.
Well, sir, of the citizens of the United States
of America who perished on 9/11, especially, those
who had served in our nation's armed forces--none
of them were "citizens of the world."
May God Bless America, the families of all those
who perished on 9/11/01, and may He preserve our
nation and protect it from harm.
Yours in brotherhood,
John J. Molloy

"The
original Purple Heart award was instituted by
George Washington in 1782 to reward troops for
"unusual gallantry" and "extraordinary
fidelity and essential service." The award
was a purple cloth
heart edged in silver braid, and was to be worn
over the left breast of the uniform."
The day was established to honor Purple Heart
recipients, the purple heart award now reserved
for
our combat killed and wounded, also including
prisoners of war and missing in action.
